20 Things I’m Grateful For

I’ve learnt through my volunteering that being grateful is such a powerful way of maintaining even a snippet of hope in otherwise seemingly hopeless situations.

Even in the worst of times, I find that if I can think of just one thing I’m grateful for, no matter how small, it gives my mood a boost. Regardless of our circumstances, if we can learn to be grateful for what we do have instead of yearning for what we don’t, we have a much better chance at feeling content in life.

So I’m going to start off with a list of 20 things I’m grateful for tonight. I’m not setting a precedent with that figure, but I thought I’d start off with a bang!

Today I’m grateful for (in no particular order):

  1. Our heater.
  2. Our bbq (cooking meat inside sets off the smoke alarm).
  3. Thick, soft bath towels.
  4. My parents.
  5. My brother.
  6. Watching a movie with Jessie this afternoon.
  7. Our furry family members.
  8. My comfortable bed.
  9. The sunshine.
  10. My car being on the road again.
  11. My friends who know me and love me.
  12. Having open communication with Jessie.
  13. Netflix.
  14. Friends who love Jessie.
  15. Smoothies.
  16. Hot water.
  17. Good memories.
  18. Lessons I’ve learnt in life.
  19. Toilet paper!!!
  20. Music

  1. i think this is an excellent post Kat 🙂

    Suze every night writes in a journal what she is grateful for and it is part and parcel of a form of self meditation into well being and mindfulness – so well done for joining the ranks.

    I don’t write mine down in a journal, but make a mental note each night before l retire and every morning upon awakening, l too go through the mental mind motions of what l am grateful for.

    I think more people should do this, they might learn therefore that they have more to be grateful for than they think 🙂

    1. Thanks Rory. That’s fantastic that you and Suze practice gratitude daily. I think it’s a form of self care too, and a way of lifting our spirits. And you’re absolutely right, we all have so much more to be grateful for than we realise. They don’t have to be big things, but everything we’re grateful for has to be a positive 😊☮️
